With GP2 switching to Pirelli tyres next year as well as Formula 1, the Italian manufacturer is now considering a general product for both championships, it has been revealed. The idea has sprouted following the most recent test for both series at Paul Ricard in France last week.
Trident Racing has revealed that Edoardo Piscopo will be making his GP2 Main Series debut by replacing cash-strapped Johnny Cecotto at Monza next weekend. The former Formula 2 driver and current Auto GP series leader first competed with the team in the most recent Asia Series.

It has been confirmed by Scuderia Coloni that Álvaro Parente will be retained by the team for the upcoming race weekend at Monza following an impressive return to GP2 last time out in Belgium, where he rose by fourteen places to second in the Saturday Feature Race and then finished third in Sunday’s Sprint Race.

Pirelli continued its testing programme at France’s Paul Ricard circuit on Thursday morning as Nick Heidfeld once again drove a 2009 Toyota chassis. The outing marked further preparations for the returning Italian tyre company, which claims it is ahead of schedule prior to a further test in Spain in a fortnight’s time.
