On Thursday this week, three drivers from Formula Renault 3.5 Series – Nathanaël Berthon (International Draco Racing), Albert Costa (Epsilon Euskadi) and Sten Pentus (Fortec Motorsport) – plus the leader of Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, Kevin Korjus (Koiranen Bros Motorsport), were received by the Renault F1 Team in the context of the Monza Formula 1 Grand Prix. An unforgettable day and full in insights for these drivers whose goal is to move up to F1 in the years to come.

At the initiative of Renault Sport Technologies and Renault F1 Team, three drivers from Formula Renault 3.5 Series and the leader of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 were received by the Renault F1 Team on Thursday, in the heart of paddock at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Nathanael Berthon, Albert Costa, Sten Pentus and Kevin Korjus were initially welcomed to the Renault F1 Team motorhome by Eric Boullier, Renault F1 Team Principal. It was a discovery for them all to find that even at the level of F1, their results are carefully monitored.

After an in-depth tour of the Renault F1 Team garage, the four drivers went over to meet Red Bull Racing’s Jaime Alguersuari, who only last season was competing in Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

Fortec Motorsport's Mitchell Hale could secure Renault Sport's Formula Renault 2 0 prize test this weekend

Renault Sport is offering the championship leader after round 10 of the 2010 Protyre Formula Renault BARC series a test in the new Formula Renault 2.0 race car at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.

The test, run by Renault Sport Technologies, will take place on Monday, 11th October at the 4.655km track which earlier this year provided the venue for round five of the Formula One World Championship. The winner will also receive up to £500 towards their travelling and accommodation costs.

Fortec Motorsport’s Mitchell Hale (Bristol) currently leads the drivers’ standings after eight races in the 12-round championship and would claim the prize if he can retain his advantage during rounds nine and 10 at Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend (11th/12th September). Hillspeed’s Alice Powell (Chipping Norton) however is just 16 points adrift of the 16-year-old with a potential 64 points up for grabs at the Northamptonshire meeting.

Commenting on the announcement Hale said: “This sounds a brilliant idea and would really help with my bid to race in the UK series in 2011. I have tested once at Barcelona before and really enjoyed the track so would love to return. I’m feeling fairly confident about this weekend’s meeting and just hope I’m still leading the championship by the end.”

The overall Protyre Formula Renault BARC Champion still receives a 25% discount on their registration fee for the 2011 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship with the Vice-Champion enjoying a 15% reduction.
